Changing colors is easy!

How to change color when crocheting…It’s easier than you think!

We have talked about making some simple crochet stitches, but today we are going to talk about how to change color when crocheting.  Changing colors is easier than you think…I promise!  The main thing is the tails that it leaves behind, that you have to weave in at the end of your project.  Ugh!!!  Changing color in your crochet project is a great way to offer visual interest and variety.  Variegated yarn has color changes in the yarn itself, so it will change throughout your project without you having to do it.  But if you are looking for clean color change lines, a simple color change is great!  You can also use this technique to start a new skein of yarn.

The technique:

I have included a short YouTube video to help my visual learners walk through the technique with me.  The concept is pretty simple.  You are “almost” going to finish your stitch, but instead of pulling through all loops with the color you have been using, you are going to pull through all loops with the color you are changing to.  You are going to do this in the stitch BEFORE you want your new color to show up.

Knit Picks has some of the best yarn!  I’m totally in love with their cotton yarn…they call it Dishie Yarn.  I have used it for my beach bags, washcloths, and purses.  It’s durable, won’t “pill”, and the colors are amazing!  You can really put your color changing technique to good use…they have so many colors to choose from!
